Seattle Walking Tour - Monday October 25th, 9:30-11:30 am
Founded in 1851 by adventurous pioneers, Seattle has a short, but lively history. Walking through the downtown area there are reminders of significant events that have shaped the area and reflect Seattles relationships with world events, as well as how Seattle has solved challenges: its hills, economic booms and busts, and remote location.

Starting at the Renaissance Hotel on the highest hill in the business district, we will visit the highly acclaimed Seattle Public Library, see distinguished buildings from the 20th century, ride the free buses, and stop at the citys three Historic Districts: the Chinatown/International District, Pioneer Square, and the Pike Place Public Market.

In our Seattle Walking Tour you'll see Seattle's history, get a good overview of the city and understand the city's personality as we poke into doorways, discover gardens, and find places that make the area unique. We walk through the heart of the downtown area, seeing pieces of glass art, classic buildings, and talking about the citys history and development. We pass by Benaroya Hall where the Seattle symphony has its concerts, and through the financial area. We stop in the Chinatown-International District, walk through the historic Pioneer Square with its turn-of-the-century buildings, stop in the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park, and continue to the Pike Place Public Market.

Although Seattle has a reputation for rain, its annual rainfall is less than many major cities. Locals wear layers a light sweater and a jacket and dont carry umbrellas depending on the forecast. For the tour, please wear comfortable shoes there are hills.

Duse McLean is the author of the popular Pocket Guide to Seattle and Surrounding Areas and other Seattle guide books. Each participant will receive a complimentary. Duse has worked for the Convention and Visitors Bureau, been a guide for bus tours and owns Seattle Walking Tours.

The cost will be $15 pp or $12 pp if we have 12 or more participants.

Auto Rental Tip
If you plan to rent a car in Seattle for a day or a week, you may want to take other transportation to the hotel and rent a vehicle locally. Here's why.

Parking rates at the hotel and in downtown Seattle run between $35 & $40 per day. This is close to the daily rate for a car rental. Consider renting a car by the day to avoid parking expense. Alamo, National, Enterprise, Hertz, and Dollar all have rental locations close to our hotel. Dollar has a special rental promotion; they will either pick you up at the hotel or reduce one day's rental fee by $7.00 if you take a cab to their location which is less than a mile from the hotel. Most renters walk back to the hotel after dropping off their rental vehicle.
